Plans for the kitchen

As you may or may not know, my kitchen and I are not getting along. I can't figure out how to decorate it for the life of me!! I'm loving the green wall though, it's making everything feel a little less plain.

You should also know (if you've read my blog for a while) that I haven't been able to figure out what to put in the kitchen "window", and it's driving me insane.

That may have changed.

I have been thinking about making a black and white striped curtain for the kitchen doorway that leads into the laundry room (because it's hideous and I don't want to see back there) and while I was planning on making that, I had the thought of putting a curtain in the window too.. And it was first in my head as black and white stripe so that I could still add some color around it without it being too colorful itself, but having two black and white striped curtains right next to each other, being different sizes, would be weird.

I saw this pin a while ago

and knew I wanted to do something like that in our home, just not sure where. Except instead of all yellow tops, I'd paint them all different bright colors.

So today, I put that thought and the thought of making a geometric curtain together, and I love it! (To make the curtain, I'm thinking about just getting a white piece of fabric, putting painter's tape in random geo shapes, then painting black fabric paint over the whole thing.) But since I'm in Wyoming, I can't just get going on making anything (I don't have any measurements or any of my supplies). So what did I do? Spend an hour on Paintbrush remaking my kitchen, with what it will possibly look like when it's done.

Oh, I should tell you that I'm putting polka dots in my kitchen. It looks awesome and I love it.
(I wanted to see what it would look like, so I cut out 5 1/2 inch circles from construction paper and taped them on the wall, hence why there's only a few of them up. Eventually I'll get them in vinyl and put them up on all of the white walls in the kitchen)

And since I spent at least an hour creating what it will look similar to, I am definitely showing it to you all.

It won't look this cluttered, because I don't know how to make things to scale, and the polka dots aren't that close together in real life, nor is there even that much white space for there to be that many dots. And because I don't have a full view picture of my kitchen right now for you to compare, the only things I've added are the black and white striped "curtain" on the left, the black and white geometric curtain in the middle, and the jars. Everything else is in there. And there isn't as much wall space above the top middle cabinets, but I still want to add more color somehow, and I'm thinking about making a paper garland similar to this and hanging it horizontally.

Operation "Have A Super Bright And Colorful Kitchen With Black And White Stuff In Some Places" is underway...

(Almost) The whole month of May in one post!

So it's been a while and so much has happened! I went to visit my sister and her new baby at the beginning of the month and we didn't do much while I was there, but can you blame me?!
I had these two rascals playing every second of the day keeping us well entertained, and then
this adorable little boy to hold and take pictures of. I LOVE HIM!! He's so tiny and precious (: I was very sad to leave, but happy to be back with my awesome husband!!

On the way home from the airport, Cody and I were talking about random things here and there, and then ended up talking about The Five Love Languages (because I was looking through the book the night before). I was saying that my language of love was probably acts of service like cleaning and helping out around the house. Well, of course he didn't know that beforehand, but yet I came home to a perfectly spotless house, and a completed brick pathway from our carport to back door!!! I was so surprised, because when I was talking to him on the phone earlier that day, he was saying he didn't do much cleaning around the house and he wasn't able to get people together to finish the brick path.. Little tricker!!

This may not look very clean, but trust me.. it was a million times worse before!!

It was oh so very good to be with Cody again!!

Then a few days later, we decided to sell our blue couch and Cody's bass guitar and amp, so we put them on KSL and sold them within 3 days! It was super awesome, especially since we never used our blue couch (or the room it was in) because we just used the room with the red couches when anyone came over. I was really excited to re-arrange the room, as this is something we do in our house quite frequently!

Here's the blog post of what it looked like before the rearranging, and as you can see, it is SO VERY CLUTTERED AND CROWDED! And here's what it looks like now!

I love how open it feels, and I'm hoping to add quite a few more plants.. I'M OBSESSED!! And if you're super observant and memorize all of our pieces of furniture and where we put them, you'll realize that we moved the TV out of the craft room and took the big armoire thing out of the front room, so naturally we had to rearrange the front room too. Which we did, but it's so bare!! I'm not going to post pictures until I am happy with it, which is not right now. But hopefully soon!

And right now, Cody, Dexter and I are in Wyoming with Shaun and Melody (my brother-in-law and sister-in-law) and Cody's doing a lot of work for them. We're just enjoying the relaxation and I'm planning quite a few preschool lessons!!

Happy Memorial Day!

More paintings!

I've had this picture up in my house and apartments for a long time. At least 3 years, maybe more.. Actually I think it's more like 4 years.

Kaylee and I bought it at some craft store with a cheap-o frame, and it's been wonderful in every place it's been. Just a random, but good looking picture. Well, just a few days ago, Cody mentioned that it freaks him out every time he looks at it. Not like he's going to pee his pants or anything, but he just thinks those guys are stupid. So then I thought to myself, "why do we still have it hanging up?" And then I thought, "I should just turn the picture around, and use the back as a blank canvas for whatever I feel like painting."

And today, I did just that.

I've been looking for a really cool looking black and white painting to do, but had no clue what I wanted or where I'd put it.

Whilst browsing Pinterest for months and months, I found these rad paintings, and ended up recreating the last one. We'll see if I make room in our house for me to paint the rest of them (;

How cool is the wall behind the painting?? I'd die if Cody would actually let me paint a wall like that!!

I found some metallic silver paint, and decided to give it a try. And when it first touched the paper, I knew it was a bad idea.

So I just painted thicker black lines.

And I'm officially in love with it.

I also realized that I never put a picture up of the tree painting with the teal bird, and I never showed what I did with the other canvas. So here they both are.

I love painting! I'm so glad Cody lets me do whatever I want with decorating, and that I've been able to do it on a budget (recreating all of the cool things I see instead of buying them). I'm just loving our little house more and more!
